You can only beat what is put in front of you and that is exactly what the British & Irish Lions are doing in emphatic fashion, just two games into the highly anticipated Tour of Australia.

Having dispatched of the Barbarians in Hong Kong at the weekend, today saw the turn of Western Force as the Lions scored nine tries in a comfortable 69-17 victory in their first match on Australian soil.

In a much changed line-up from the weekend match and taking to the field against an openly criticised weakened Western Force side, those who started this time round really took the opportunity to impress the coaches and press for a starting place come the First Test against the Wallabies.

A master-class in sublime kicking by Leigh Halfpenny saw him leave the field with a 100% success from the boot and a perfect 24 points. Leading by example, Brian O’Driscoll showed that age is no barrier as he utilised his experience and ability to cross the line twice along with scores from Parling, Farrell, Bowe, Vunipola, Heaslip, Croft and Sexton

Undoubtedly taking the gloss off the victory will be the injury sustained to prop Cian Healy, who was stretchered off in the first half with a suspected sprained ankle.

With two victories from two matches and well over 100 points already amassed, including 17 tries, the British & Irish Lions are certainly making their presence felt and providing plenty of encouragement for both players and fans alike. For those of a statistical nature, the visitors controlled possession by 57% to 43% and amassed 540m to the hosts 197m.

Next up is the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Saturday, giving the players a feel of what to expect for the same venue staging the First Test against the Wallabies on June 22nd. As usual, stay with Lovell Rugby for all the latest news and action as we continue supporting the Lions on their Tour of Australia.
