Wallaby Kurtley Beale To Join The Melbourne Rebels

Posted on by Ben

Australia full-back Kurtley Beale will join the Melbourne Rebels at the end of the current season. Currently at the Waratahs with whom he made his Super Rugby debut in 2007 at the age of just 17, Beale will officially announce his departure on Thursday, but NSW coach Chrish Hickey has already confirmed that Beale will be leaving the team.

“Kurtley will give his reasons when he makes his announcement but he has informed us of his decision,” Hickey told AAP.

“What I want to stress is that this will happen in 2012 and in the meantime he’s playing for the Waratahs and we expect him to make a significant contribution towards helping us to win the Super Rugby title.”

“It’s particularly disappointing because the Waratahs have played such a large part of Kurtley’s career and we would have liked to have kept him,” said Hickey.

According to reports, the Western Force and rugby league outfit South Sydney were also interested in luring the 2010 IRB Player of the Year nominee away from Sydney but that the 22-year-old decided to join the youngest of the Australian Super Rugby franchises. The loss of the versatile Beale (Who wears Adidas AdiZero RS7 Rugby Boots) will come as a big blow to the Waratahs, with the Syndey native going from strength to strength in recent times.
