Tuilagi Out For Up to 8 Weeks
Having impressed last weekend in his first club outing since the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, the Leicester centre now looks likely to be ruled out for up to eight weeks, with a scan on Tuesday evening set to reveal the full severity of the injury which was sustained against Newcastle on Saturday.
With the autumn tests on the horizon, Tuilagi now faces a race against time to see if he will be fit to line up against the likes of the touring parties from Australia, Argentina and New Zealand.
The injury is grim reading for the England coaching staff as they are already without Brad Barritt, following foot surgery which has ruled him out to the end of the year. This leaves England head coach, Stuart Lancaster with the headache of only having two fit centre’s available in the guise of Gloucester’s Billy Twelvetrees and Bath’s Kyle Eastmond although the latter has his own injury concerns having not played since limping off in the season’s opening weekend.
Having only signed a new long-term contract with Premiership champions Leicester in May, he will now miss out on their league and Heineken Cup fixtures over the coming weeks and is most likely to pull on the England shirt again in the 2014 Six Nations.
