The Class of 2013: Lovell Rugby’s Top Rugby Boots
Over the past twelve months we have seen an exciting array of innovative and performance enhancing rugby boots arrive on the pitch.
Once again adidas have show their superiority and flexed their rugby muscles with a collection of boots that have included the Kakari, Incurza and FF80 but they have certainly not had it all their own way. The likes of Asics and X Blades have proved popular opposition meaning that this year players had even more on offer to choose from.
It wasn’t easy to limit our selection to just five rugby boots but here we have it as Lovell Rugby celebrates the best of 2013.
Replacing their previous model, the adidas Kakari introduces an all new Bravo synthetic leather which has the feel of a soft K-leather but is far stronger to deliver a specific forward play boot. In addition, the synthetic Bravo leather helps prevent boot deformation and stretching, resulting in the shape being retained for longer whilst also moulding quickly to your feet.
For increased comfort, adidas have added Synthetic Print on the heel lining as an aid to prevent heel slippage and makes the boot easier to break-in. The Kakari also utilises a 5mm heel wedge to deliver optimal performance and reduce stress on the lower body.
With an eight stud configuration, six studs at the forefoot and two on the heel, the screw-in studs generate excellent grip on soft natural surfaces and can also be interchanged for various stud lengths depending on conditions.
One of Australia’s finest exports, the Asics Lethal Warno ST2 SG Rugby Boot has made the long journey to grace our shores with power, speed and comfort in perfect harmony.
Featuring a mix of leather and synthetic leather across the upper, wearers will experience instant comfort supported by great durability. Perfectly suited for positions 1 ‒ 8, the Lethal Warno is enhanced by the Asics HG10mm (heel gradient) which is now common place in all their rugby boots as an innovative way of preventing injury by placing less stress on your foot during play.
Under the boot and features continue to flow with the inclusion of a new rugby traxion sole. This utilises a combination of eight standard screw-in studs, six across the forefoot and two on the heel, with the addition of two strategically placed moulded hybrid studs for optimum power when driving forward. At home on soft natural surfaces, the Lethal Warno makes light work of heavy and wet conditions making it the perfect choice to wear throughout the rugby season.
Endorsed by the likes of Dan Carter, Leigh Halfpenny and Jonny Wilkinson, the new adidas Predator Incurza XT SG Rugby Boot takes to the rugby field as the latest release of the highly successful Predator collection.
For a high performance boot, the Incurza is treated to a soft and lightweight synthetic material across the upper which instantly moulds to the shape of your foot and ensures a supremely comfortable and natural feel every time you slip them on.
With the addition of durable rubber panels along the instep, this enhances your kicking experience without impacting on your general play. For those players who rely on their kicking game then the Incurza is perfectly suited to your play and brings about a whole new level of performance.
Many players require a wider fit and so these boots have been expanded, putting them on level terms with the successful Powerswerve model. A subtle and innovative touch is the 3D Puff print on the inner heel, making the boot easier to break in and ensures that the boot will fit better by locking your foot in whilst preventing foot slippage. In addition, adidas have introduced a 5mm heel wedge to help you maintain a better running/striking position which helps reduce injury and strain on your lower limbs.
The latest addition to the popular Legend collection sees the X Blades Legend Speed FG Football Boots further enhancing the Australian brands growing reputation for high performance footwear.
One of their lightest boots to date, weighing in at just 208g (UK size 8), the ultra-thin premium kangaroo leather ensures plenty of comfort to treat your feet to. Employing a traditional central lacing system this further enhances the overall feel, as does the padded heel and ankle support.
Designed to make light work of natural firm surfaces, the Legend Speed employs strategically positioned moulded blades across the forefoot and heel. The dual density system is made from lightweight TPU with the blades graduated so as to reduce posterior lower limb muscle strain. A subtle feature which can make all the difference in your game.
Powering across the game line and ready to tackle anything on the rugby field, the adidas FF80 Pro XTRX SG II Rugby Boot is ready for kick-off.
Every aspect of the adidas FF80 has been engineered to increase traction in scrums, rucks and mauls; allowing loose forwards to be faster to the breakdown and provide a solid platform for explosive acceleration. After all, this is the boot of choice for British & Irish Lions and Wales captain, Sam Warburton.
Made from a lightweight and durable Singmax (combination of materials) upper, this ensures a strong feel across the foot and delivers comfort from the moment you slip them on. Aided by the inclusion of soft padding to the ankle and heel along with a central lacing system, this ensures supreme comfort and protection to fill you with confidence during play.
The FF80 is truly defined by the inclusion of an extra stud positioned under the toe of the boot. This small and subtle addition delivers improved stability, traction and power as you launch yourself across soft natural playing surfaces. This 5×2 stud configuration not only offers significant benefits over the more traditional 4×2 rugby boot but specifically caters to the unique requirements of specialist flankers and number 8 forwards.
