There was shock exit at the Women’s Rugby World Cup over the weekend as New Zealand exited the competition. A defeat to Ireland a few days earlier meant that they had to win and hope other results went their way in the final round of Pool matches. Congratulations to England, Ireland, France and Canada for making it through to the last four.

In Northern Hemisphere rugby league, the Challenge Cup final will be an all-West Yorkshire affair after wins for the Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers over the weekend. Down Under, the South Sydney Rabbitohs claimed a comfortable victory over NRL table toppers the Manly Sea Eagles.

England Women top Pool A

A 13-13 draw between England and Canada on Saturday was enough to secure semi-final spots for both teams as well as knock out four-time champions New Zealand. England’s no. 8 Sarah Hunter scored her side’s only try, midway through the second half, with centre Emily Scarratt converting and adding two penalties.

Hunter has resisted the many different models of boots that are now available on the market and opts to wear a pair of classic adidas Copa Mundials.

Leeds and Castleford reach the Challenge Cup final

Castleford Tigers booked their first visit to Wembley Stadium in 22 years on Sunday after a 6-28 victory over the Widnes Vikings in the Challenge Cup Semi-final. There were tries for Finn, Clark, Dixon, Ellis and Webster at the Leigh Sports Village although the game will be remembered for crowd trouble at the full-time whistle.

Try scorer Liam Finn was sporting a pair of white/red X Blades Legend Speed Rugby Boots – a popular choice in the 13 man code.

Rabbitohs victorious again

Sam Burgess scored on his return from injury as the South Sydney Rabbitohs defeated league leaders the Manly Sea Eagles 24-3 on Friday. As well as his try, he managed to make 202 metres in attack and 31 tackles in defence. The win moves the Rabbitohs to within two points of top spot.

The Rabbitohs finished 2nd in the league last season but failed to make the Grand Final after losing to the Sea Eagles in the Preliminary Final.
