Standing out at the weekend
The Waratahs and the Crusaders will compete in the 2014 Super Rugby final next weekend after both comfortably defeated their Semi-final opponents. The ANZ Stadium in Sydney will play host to the game and it could be a historic day for the ‘Tahs as they look to win their first Super Rugby title. The Crusaders will be on the hunt for their eighth.
There was a shock in the NRL as the the Knights made it three defeats in four games for the Roosters. Elsewhere, the Eels got the better of the Titans in what was their first win since mid June. Don’t forget, this weekend the Roosters, Raiders, Dragons, Sea Eagles and Cowboys run out in their Marvel themed shirts (get yours here).
Read back to his best for the Crusaders
Big games call for big performances and that was certainly the case for Kieran Read against the Sharks. The Crusaders captain put in an all action display and scored the first of his teams five tries in the 38-6 win. High on the Waratahs game plan for the final will surely be ensuring the All Blacks number 8 is not given room to run.
Read was sporting a pair of the latest Black/Running White/Solar Red adidas FF80 Pro Rugby Boots on Saturday which are unique due to their 5×2 stud configuration.
Wonder try from Hayne
The Parramatta Eels losing streak is over thanks to a 18-24 victory over the Gold Coast Titans. Jarryd Hayne found himself on the end of a verbal attack from Nate Myles in the first half but it was Hayne who had the last laugh. A stunning 70 metre try was the perfect way to shut up his Australian team mate and help the Eels to their much needed win.
The TruSox wearer bagged a second try shortly after his solo effort and made an impressive 229 metres in total. Clearly a sign of confidence rather than arrogance.
South Africa 7s win gold
Seabelo Senata was the star of the show for South Africa on Sunday evening as they ended New Zealand dominance at the Commonwealth Games. The Springboks had plenty in the tank for the final and this was clear to see when they raced clear to score on three separate occasions. Many are already looking forward to Rugby 7s debut at Rio 2016.
Two try scorer Senata dazzled defences all weekend, bagging eleven tries in total while wearing a pair of Mizuno Morelia Neo boots.
