Standing out at the weekend

Latest Rugby News from Lovell Rugby

We’re now approaching the business end of the Super Rugby season with the two home Semi-finalists now decided after the latest round of fixtures. The Waratahs and Crusaders topped the final league standings but will have to wait until another week before finding out who stands between them and a spot in the final. The Brumbies, Chiefs, Sharks and Highlanders all still have a chance of making it to the penultimate weekend of the 2014 Super Rugby season.

The New Zealand Warriors 48-0 win over the Parramatta Eels was the stand out result from the NRL and a familiar name was among the try scorers.

Check out our highlights from the weekend below.

Crusaders book a home Semi-final

Dan Carter and co left nothing to chance on Saturday and picked up a bonus-point win over the Highlanders. A brace from flanker Matt Todd was accompanied by tries for Nadolo and Flynn as well as 14 points from the boot of Carter. Can the Crusaders go all the way and win their first Super Rugby trophy since 2008?

Their 2014 Home Shirt has a distinct medieval theme by incorporating chain mail armour into the imposing red design of the jersey.

Trend setting de Jongh

The Sharks won at Newlands for the first time since 2009 at the weekend and secured their third place finish in the Super Rugby table. The visitors required a 35-point win and four tries to overtake the Crusaders but only managed 34 and three tries. It was a member of the Stormers team though that caught our eye.

South African centre Juan de Jongh was sporting a pair of adidas RS7 boots that were made up of both the Solar Blue and Solar Red colourways.

Warriors breeze past the Eels

Shaun Johnson converted all eight of the New Zealand Warriors scores against the Parramatta Eels in a 48-0 victory. It is now three wins on the bounce for the Warriors and their hopes of a play-off spot are steadily increasing. Former Wigan Warriors full-back Sam Tomkins also got on the score sheet twice.

A black tone takes a dominant role across their Home Shirt and is complemented by a striking red and white v-pattern decorating the upper chest.
