Rugby Boot Spotting – RWC Round 1
After a 4 year wait, the Rugby World Cup finally kicked off in New Zealand on Friday. Over the first weekend of matches, there were some very close encounters with South Africa beating Wales by one point and Romania pushing Scotland all the way.
Throughout the matches there were a wide range of boots worn and we have picked out a select few. There are South African wingers Bryan Habana and Francois Hougaard wearing Adidas RS7 boots and Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly boots respectively. Also spotted in a pair of Nike boots was Japanese James Arlidge in a pair of Nike Legends. England’s Dan Cole and Scottish centre Joe Ansbro were both spotted in Mizuno boots and finally there is Namibian back Pieters van Lill wearing a pair of Yellow Puma Powercat C 1.10 boots.
Bryan Habana
Plays for: Stormers and South Africa
Wears: Adidas Adizero RS7 Pro SG Rugby Boots Orange & Blue
Habana had a relatively quiet game on Sunday however did all that he could to get involved. He will be hoping that in the Springboks next game against Fiji he gets to see a bit more of the ball in his hands and gets to have a run at the opposition.
Dan Cole
Plays for: Leicester Tigers and England
Wears: Mizuno Timaru SG Rugby Boots Black & Lime
Cole was unfortunate to be the only player to be sin-binned in the game on Saturday between England and Argentina after countless infringements at the breakdown from sides. Cole made up for his error with another solid performance at the scrum and his workrate around the park.
James Arlidge
Plays for: Nottingham and Japan
Wears: Nike Tiempo Legend IV SG Boots Black, White & Orange
Even though Japan were underdogs going in to the match, they did everything they could to cause a shock upset. Even though it did not materalise, Arlidge and the rest of the squad can be proud of their efforts in their opening game.
Joe Ansbro
Plays for: London Irish and Scotland
Wears: Mizuno Morelia Pro SG boots Black & White
After scoring the winning try against Ireland in one of the warm-up games, Ansbro earnt himself a starting slot against Romania. After scoring against Romania, you would expect the Scotland coaches to keep faith with the London Irish man.
Francois Hougaard
Plays for: Bulls and South Africa
Wears: Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly III Boots Granite, Pink & White
Hougaard came off the bench to score the winning try against Wales in a game that was decided by one point. The Bulls winger will be hoping that this try gets him a starting slot in the Boks next game.
Pieters van Lill
Plays for: Stade Aurillac and Namibia
Wears: Puma Powercat C 1.10 SG WC Boots Yellow, Black & Silver
Puma’s Rugby World Cup boots were on show in the opening round of matches as Namibia took on Fiji. People aren’t expecting to win a game at the tournement however there have been upsets in the past.
