Rugby Boot Spotting – European Matches 19th & 20th January 2013
The pool stages of this year Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup have now both come to an end and the quarter final fixtures for both competitions have been decided. Last weekends fixtures were hit or bust for some teams as they looked to qualify for the next round whilst others were trying to ensure that their next match in the competition would be played at their home ground. This provided an entertaining weekend of rugby all round.
There were a number of new boots and colourways on show over the weekend including the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX boots, which Henry Trinder wore for the first time. Cian Healy wore the latest Kakari colourway whilst Samu Manoa sported a pair of Under Armour boots. It was hard to miss Chris Ashton in the Volt Total 90′s whilst Jonathan Josephs RS7 III boots were slightly more discreet.
Henry Trinder
Plays for: Gloucester
Wears: Nike Mercurial Vapor IX SG Pro Boots Fireberry Purple & Electric Green
We weren’t expecting any players to be wearing the new Nike Mercurial Vapor IX so seeing the Gloucester winger in them was a big surprise. Nike and Trinder couldn’t have been happier with the new boots as he crossed twice for the cherry and whites in their 36-16 win over Mont de Marsan.
Cian Healy
Plays for: Leinster and Ireland
Wears: Adidas adiPower Kakari Wide Fit SG Rugby Boots White, Navy & Yellow
The number 1 shirt for the British & Irish Lions looks like it will be going to the Irish prop after a string of impressive performances for his club. He seems to make yards every time that he carries the ball at the moment so can warrant wearing white boots in the front row.
Samu Manoa
Plays for: Northampton Saints and USA
Wears: Under Armour Hydrastrike Pro II SG Boots White, Red & Black
The second row put in another strong performance for his side last weekend but it was not enough as they ended up losing to a late try from Glasgow. Manoa has given his boots a makeover by removing the black laces and replacing them with a striking set of red laces.
Chris Ashton
Plays for: Saracens and England
Wears: Nike Total 90 Laser IV Boots Volt, Black & Citron
Ashton grabbed a brace of tries for Sarries at the weekend as they booked their place in the last 8 of this seasons Heineken Cup. Most players boots were unrecognisable in the snow at Vicarage Road on Sunday however the wingers flourescent pair did a good job of standing out.
Jonathan Joseph
Plays for: London Irish and England
Wears: Adidas adiZero RS7 III Pro TRX SG Rugby Boots Blaze Blue & Yellow
A 17-7 win over Bordeaux-Begles was not enough for Irish to qualify for the quarter final stages of the Amlin Challenge Cup. Joseph scored his sides first try and looked a threat with the ball in hand throughout the game. He looks certain to feature for England at the upcoming Six Nations.
