Latest Rugby News from Lovell Rugby

This weeks boot spotting is a FRONT ROW SPECIAL. With the winter weather now upon us, the pitches are beginning to suit the boys upfront allowing them to have a greater presence in the game. It is now hard for the backs to play an expansive game due to the wet ball and strong winds so teams are looking to crash it up with the forwards and dominate at scrum time.

Northampton try-scorer Brian Mujati is the first player boot spotted from the weekend in a pair of Puma Powercats. Next is Harlequins Joe Marler wearing a pair of Adidas Flankers followed by Baths David Wilson in Asics Lethal Warno’s. London Irish hooker David Paice wore a pair of Puma King Finale H8 Boots and finally is Harlequins James Johnston who wore Mizuno Wave Ignitus 2′s.

Dylan Hartley and Soane Tonga’uiha, along with Mujati, make up the Saints front row and are now one of the best front three in the Premiership. Mujati grabbed a try at the weekend after making a break just outside the Wasps 22m line to find no full-back in place and the line in his sights. The Puma Powercat 2.10 is an 8 stud boot so is ideal for scrummaging and also is one of the lightest 8 stud boots which allows for maximum speed.

Joe Marler

Plays for: Harlequins and England

Wears: Adidas adiPure Flanker Wide Fit SG Rugby Boots Black, Red & White

Well known for his wacky hairstyles, the Quins man is beginning to get his head straight and is now being tipped for a space in the England squad for the 6 nations. The Adidas adiPure Flanker is a boot commonly worn by front row forwards due to its wide fit and solid structure. Leicester Tigers and Italy prop Martin Castrogiovanni also sports the boot.

David Wilson

Plays for: Bath and England

Wears: Asics Lethal Warno SG Rugby Boots Black & White

Always in the England squad but is yet to cement his place as first choice. The Bath man has made a name for himself as a great scrummager and also quite useful around the park. The Asics Lethal Warno offers him a strong scrummaging platform with the 8 stud sole plate and the comfortable fit of a running shoe.

David Paice

Plays for: London Irish and England

Wears: Puma King Finale H8 SG Rugby Boots Black, White & Green

The Exiles man has two England caps to his name and is expected to add to that in the future. An ever present fixture in the London Irish side and a solid thrower at the line-out. The Puma King Finale H8 rugby boot is a modified version of the classic football boot which features 8 studs making it more suitable for rugby.

James Johnston

Plays for: Harlequins and Samoa

Wears: Mizuno Wave Ignitus 2 K Leather SG Rugby Boots Blue Danube, White, Dress Blue

Standing at 6ft 2″ and weighing around 308lb, the Samoan prop is one of the biggest players in the league. Opposition teams have to take him down early else he can pick up speed and takes some stopping. The Mizuno Wave Ignitus 2 is primarily a football boot however its 8 stud sole plate makes it ideal for rugby.
