Rugby Boot Spotting – Aviva Premiership 1st and 2nd September 2012
Last weekend marked the return of the Aviva Premiership after the summer break. There were a number of high scoring games and a couple of close score-lines so a joyous weekend for some and a disappointing one for others.
With the players having a number of weeks off it gave some of them the opportunity to re-think their boot choices. Dan Cole opted for a pair of Adidas Kakari boots and Andy Goode went for the new Adidas Predator Incurzas’. Olly Barkley’s white Puma King SL boots were an almost perfect match to the new Bath alternate shirt, Toby Flood kept to Leicester’s boots rules in a pair of mildly coloured Nike Total 90s and Richard Wigglesworth played in the rarely seen Under Armour Hydrastrike boots.
Dan Cole
Plays for: Leicester Tigers and England
Wears: Adidas Adipower Kakari Wide Fit SG Rugby Boots Black & Red
We are not sure whether Cole has switched to Adidas on a full time basis or will be back in a pair of Mizuno Timaru boots this weekend however for now it does seem as though he will be wearing the specialist Adidas front 5 forward boot. The new model has become an instant hit with professional and amatuers for its superior comfort and excellent foot support.
Andy Goode
Plays for: Worcester Warriors and England
Wears: Adidas Predator Incurza XT SG Rugby Boots Metallic Silver, Black & Red
The former England fly half has been wearing a pair of old Nike CTR 360 boots for the past few seasons, however started the game on Saturday in the new silver Predator. Goode has always been one to stand out on pitch and these boots will certainly help him to do that this season. New Sale signing Danny Cipriani also opted for this colour way as he looks to work his way back into the international set-up.
Olly Barkley
Wears: Puma King Finale SL I FG Euro 2012 Football Boots White & Ribbon Red
Bath defeated Worcester 24-23 on Saturday with all 24 points coming from the boot of their number 10. He landed his eighth successful penalty with the last kick of the game to give his side the win. Barkley has been wearing Puma boots for a number of seasons now and opted to start the season in the Euro 2012 colour way which suit the new Bath alternate strip.
Toby Flood
Plays for: Leicester Tigers and England
Wears: Nike Total 90 Laser IV KL FG Football Boots Black, Total Orange & Blue Glow
It is an important season for Flood as he looks to make the England number 10 shirt his own as well as earning a place in the Lions squad for the tour of Australia next summer. Leicester are not keen on players wearing bright boots and it seems the new Total 90 colourway is accepted by the club. Flood finished with a 13 point haul in his teams season opener with new boys London Irish.
Richard Wigglesworth
Plays for: Saracens and England
Wears: Under Armour Hydrastrike Pro II SG Football Boot White, Red & Black
After missing the majority of last season through injury, the Saracens scrum half will need to put in a string of impressive performances to regain his place in the England squad. There are not many professionals who wear the Under Armour Hydrastike boots although we have noticed that their popularity has gone up since the new style was released.
