Morne Steyn Kicks 8 From 8 in the New Nike Vapors
There are not many professional rugby players that still wear the Nike Mercurial Vapor range but South Africa fly half Morne Steyn has stuck with the boots and last weekend was the first to be seen in the new Mercurial Vapor VIII’s.
Steyn had a good day off the tee and managed to slot all of his eight attempts at goal - a much needed confidence booster for the Springbok who kicked poorly in the Bulls 29-23 defeat to the Blues two weeks ago. His 19 point haul was made up of 5 conversions and 3 penalties & took his personal tally to 64 points for the season. He is currently behind Johan Goosen of the Cheetahs who is on 81 points.
The new Mango Vapors are available in both Soft Ground and Firm Ground but Steyn opted for the boots designed for the harder surface. The Firm Ground boot is built on a lightweight, contoured, full length glass fiber chassis sole unit with duel TPU injected blades which are designed to deliver unrivaled acceleration. There are twin heel studs on either boot for optimal penetration and stability. This is ideal for Steyn when kicking from hand and off the tee.
The upper is made from a soft, extra-thin teijin synthetic leather which adjusts to the natural foot shape of the wearer so the wearer experiences unrivalled comfort. Previously the likes of Chris Ashton and Hosea Gear have worn the Nike speed boots although both have now switched to Nike Total 90s and Adidas adiZero RS7 II’s respectively.
