Marvel Heroes hit Lovell Rugby
The heroes of the NRL will become Super Heroes in early August when the Roosters, Dragons, Raiders, Cowboys and Sea Eagles sport their new Marvel themed jerseys.
We’ll see teams of Captain America’s, Iron Man’s, Incredible Hulk’s, Thor’s and Wolverine’s take to the field in what is sure to be a blockbuster of a weekend.
ISC CEO, Brett Corrick, says “Partnering with Marvel and adopting its universally recognised characters for this unique program demonstrates, once again, ISC’s commitment to innovation in licensed sports apparel. We are delighted with the outcome and look forward to developing this partnership.”
The Walt Disney Company Australia Chief Marketing Officer, Kylie Watson-Wheeler, says “Marvel Super Heroes are some of the most loved and recognisable icons in the world like the players and clubs of the NRL in Australia.”
Sydney Roosters as Captain America
Roosters captain Anthony Minichiello can’t wait to wear the red, white and blue but of a different nature.
“I love it. Captain America is red, white and blue similar to the Roosters so I think it fits in perfectly.”
St George Illawarra Dragons as Iron Man
Gareth Widdop is impressed with his clubs choice of super hero and can see plenty of Iron Man in himself and his team mates.
“What I like about Iron Man is that on the surface he gets his strength and power from a suit but his true source of power comes from within.”
Canberra Raiders as Hulk
Paul Vaughan has encouraged Canberra Raiders fans to ‘Go Green for Hulk’ when they take on the Warriors.
“The jerseys look fantastic and fit in with the Raiders green so we look forward to seeing a big crowd at GIO Stadium to see us in the Hulk jerseys.”
North Queensland Cowboys as Thor
Whilst most players jumped at the opportunity of a photo shoot, North Queensland Cowboys’ Ashton Sims needed convincing by his wife and son to take part.
“I got approached to do it and Nicole said ‘yeah why not, imagine how excited Koby will be’.”
Manly Sea Eagles as Wolverine
The Manly Sea Eagles have chosen to represent Wolverine in honour of actor and Sea Eagles fan Hugh Jackman.
Kieran Foran said “I think it will be a big game against Brisbane … I think all the boys will enjoy wearing the strip and like I said, I think it’s a good initiative.”
The games played in early August, marked as the Marvel Super Hero Round, will kick off on Friday 1st August. On Saturday 2nd August, the Roosters play the Dragons where Captain America meets Iron Man.
