Lovell Rugby Reviews the Adidas 118 Pro FG Rugby Boots
‘Complete Comfort. Superior Support. Total Traction’ is the way in which the new Adidas 118 Pro rugby boots can be described. Originally the boot was only going to be released for Adidas sponsored players, including Sam Warburton and John Smit but it has now been made available for the mass rugby market.
Adidas have recently released the two boots designed for forwards which are purpose built for firm and hard ground surfaces; the 118 Pro and R15 II. This came as a new move as Adidas have never previously releasing a forward specific FG/HG rugby boot. The two boots give players the option depending on what they are looking for from the boots that they are wearing. The 118 is ideal for front 5 forwards as it has similar features to the adiPure Flanker.
The upper is made from a full grain leather which provides maximum comfort and fit ideal for scrummaging. It also features lateral vamp stitching for lateral motion support. The engineered cradle of the upper helps to provide stability during all dynamic movements such as tackling and rucking.

The heels have an adiPRENE insert which provides cushioning at the heel strike. In addition to the insert, the 118 Pro has an EVA cushioned midsole for shock absorption and lower limb alingment. The shock absorption is ideal for second row forwards when coming down from being lifted at a lineout. The lower limb alingment helps reduce risk the risk of injuries to the achilles and calf muscle.

A newly developed Traxion outsole allows for better durability and optimum grip in all conditions. This combined with globally established Adidas TRX technology give the boot grip, acceleration and control on firm and hard grounds.
