Lovell Rugby RBS Six Nations Team Of The Tournament
Following a great Six Nations, all of use here at Lovell Rugby have been discussing our ‘Team of the Tournament’ made up of what we think to be the best players from this years Tournament. We have posted our team below:
15- Delon Armitage- England
Boots - Adidas Predator Powerswerve Rugby
A highly successful first championship for the London Irish full back, has looked safe under high ball and dangerous in attack with his pace and skill. Edges out Wales Lee Bryne as ankle injury held the Welshman back slightly.
14- Thom Evans- Scotland
Boots – Puma V1-08
Thom Evans the Glasgow flyer showed real promise in his debut season in International Rugby playing with his brother Max. The former Boy band member has real pace and is explosive on the wing. Was a constant threat in a losing team in Paris.
The former London Wasp must be in the running for a lions squad place.
13- Brian O’driscoll- Ireland- Captain
Boots – Adidas 915 IV
O’driscoll proved all the doubters wrong who claim he’s lost his sparkle with some big performances in the big games. His tries against England and Wales were perfect examples as rather than being spectacular O’drisscol tries, they were short range efforts when his team needed him. Possibly has lost a yard of pace but still brings a great defensive game and a big match player who will be looking forward to the Lions series after his last tour was derailed by injury. Keeps an unlucky Tom Shanklin out of our team.
12- Ricky Flutey- England
Boots - Adidas Predator Powerswerve Rugby
New Zealand born Flutey is growing into the inside centre position with every game and is now looking like a real threat. His best performance was against the French at Twickenham where his power and stepping caused the French constant problems. This compiled with aggressive defence and a decent kicking game gives him the Nod over the supremely talented Wales Gavin Henson who was starved game time to injury, will be interesting battle between two for British and Irish Lions spot in the summer in our opinion.
11- Tommy Bowe- Ireland
Boots – Puma V- Konstruct 2
The Ospreys Irish Wing had a great tournament and is now proving to be a quality international winger, displaying both pace and power combined with his sheer physical presence. Scored an important try from an O’Gara cross chip kick against Wales Blitz defence to help them win Grand slam in Cardiff.
10- Ronan O’Gara- Ireland
Boots - Adidas Predator Powerswerve Rugby
Ronan O’Gara played a massive part in Irelands historic Grand slam with his immense kicking game and organisational qualities from fly half. Showed all 92 caps worth of experience when sitting in pocket to deliver the winning drop goal in Cardiff. Has previously won 2 Heineken cup Cups with Munster before and will surely to heading on the plane to South Africa with the Lions.
9- Morgan Parra- France
Boots- Adidas Predator Powerswerve Rugby
Para the 21 year old scrum half has had a good six nations with his sharp service from the base of the scrum and reliable goal kicking, had great game in Frances win on the Friday night against Wales in Paris. Plays his Club rugby for Bourgoin in France.
8- Sergio Parisse
Boots- Le Coq Sportif
The Stade Number 8 again was Italy’s star performer again with some great displays from the base of the scrum. Has the full set of Skills as shown with kicking a drop goal against Scotland in Murrayfield.
How the Lions could do with him in South Africa this summer.
7- David Wallace- Ireland
Boots - Puma V1-08 Navy/Silver
The Munster Flanker had a highly impressive championship, putting himself surely in the driving seat for the open side flanker shirt for the Lions series. Is very physical and abrasive around the field with a high volume of tackling and ball carrying.
6- Tom Croft- England
Boots- Adidas Predator Powerswerve Rugby
The Tigers back row man has had an impressive end of Championship with England combining his impressive line out work with ball carrying and big defensive work. Also shows an impressive turn of pace which most wingers would envy. His battle with James Haskell for the England shirt is sure to carry on.
5- Paul O’connel- Ireland
Boots - Adidas Flanker IV
Munster second row O’connel had a massive campaign leading Irelands pack with some outstanding work at lineout time and around the field with his high work rate. Will be a front runner for the Lions captaincy as could be the character like Johnson was leading from the pack in South Africa in 97.
4- Lionel Nallet- France
Boots - Adidas Flanker IV
Nallet the hard working second row has lead the French from the front in their rebuilding phase. Good lineout forward combined with high work rate in loose had his Best game in Paris as France defeated Wales.
3- John Hayes- Ireland
Boots – Puma King XL H8
John Hayes after 95 caps, now finally gets his recognition by playing a major role in his Teams grand slam, with some typically gritty performances up front, solid scrimmaging and work rate helped give Ireland platform for like of O’gara to control.
2- Lee Mears- England
Boots – Puma V-Konstruct 3 Rugby boots
Lee Mears now a vital cog in Marin Johnson’s pack with his reliable throwing in and explosive work rate around the field. The Bath hooker, has also surely put himself in contention for a lions squad space with a very good Six nations. Is always willing ball carrier and has off loading skills to match, Edges Irelands Jerry Flannery.
Euan Murray Scotland
Boots - Adidas Flanker IV
Scotland and Northamptons Murray wins his place in the team due to his impressive scrummaging shown in the championship in not always a successful team. Needs good end to Guinness Premiership to cement lions tour place.

Don’t know how you can pick english players they were rubbish, only game they played well in was against france and france were very poor
