To mark the launch of the new Harlequins rugby kit from adidas, we were given the opportunity to chat to their International full-back Mike Brown about all things rugby.

Last season was full of personal accolades for Brown along with becoming a permanent fixture in the England starting XV. These included being named England’s Man of the Series in the Autumn Internationals, picking up the 2014 RBS Six Nations Player of the Championship and taking home the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Season award.

Take a look at what the adidas Predator Incurza wearer had to say.

Did you enjoy the recent tour to New Zealand?

The tour to New Zealand was a tough one and obviously disappointing not to get a win but was still a good experience. It was great to play in a country that is so passionate about rugby and visit places all round NZ.

Is it nice to have some time off before pre-season?

It’s always nice to have abit of time off after such a long tough season and get a chance to rest and recharge. It’s important to get a good rest but not too long because after a while I’m desperate to get back playing.

Are you looking forward to the new season with Harlequins?

Really looking forward to the new season. We have a brilliant squad and really think we can push for silverware this year.

Are you glad Marland Yarde has joined Quins?

It’s great to have recruited a player of Marlands quality to the already exciting squad. He’ll add some more pace & power to our backline which is a perfect fit for our style of play at Quins.

Do you enjoy pre-season?

I can’t say that I enjoy pre-season as I’m desperate to start playing rugby again but I know it’s a must to make sure your prepared to the new season. It’s also a perfect time to improve yourself as a player.

Talk us through a normal training week with Quins

In season, Monday is usually a recovery day if we’ve had a game that weekend. Also we review the game we’ve just played. Tuesday will be the hardest training day with heavy weights, speed, rugby with the backs, then rugby as a squad in the afternoon. Wednesday is a day off so I use that to do some individual power work I like to do, in the morning then rest. Thursday is Weights followed by team rugby session. Friday is team run and ill do a few short sprints to feel sharp.

What do you think of the new Harlequins adidas kit?

I love the new Quins adi kit! It looks great and the fit of it is brilliant. It really adds another few percentage to your performance in training & games having such quality kit.

How long have you been in adidas boots?

I’ve been wearing Adidas for my whole professional career and even longer than that when I was younger.

Why did you choose the Predator Incurza boot?

I love the look of the boot. The solar red looks brilliant. Also most important the feel of the boot is perfect when running and kicking a ball. Very comfortable and light.

What are the most important things you look for in a pair of boots?

First and foremost the comfort and feel of a boot has to be good. You have to be comfortable when running and stepping with the boot feeling sturdy but light. Also you have to have a good feel when kicking the ball so your kicks are accurate and powerful.

Do you prefer brighter coloured boots?

I prefer brighter boots as they standout more and look good.

Do you ever keep boots from special matches or tournaments?

I’ve still got the boots I wore during the final of the Amlin cup with Quins which was my first major trophy with them and also I have the boots I wore in the Premiership final win for Quins.

What age did you start playing the game?

5

Best advice given to you?

All you can control is how hard you work so that when your opportunity finally comes along, you are ready to take it.

Best advice for young players?

Listen to all your coaches and take as much knowledge and information from them as possible. Work hard on all core skills needed for the position you want to play. Watch as much rugby as you can and try and copy the good things that players do.

Who was your favourite player when you were young?

I didn’t have one favourite player. I just enjoyed watching all rugby games and copying what loads of different players did.

How do you relax away from rugby?

Spend time with friends and my fiancé, go for meals, watch or play all sports and watch films.
