When the Springboks run out at the DHL Newlands on 7th of June to take on a World XV, it will be the start of a new era for the South African national team. The match will mark the first time that we see the team in their new Asics kit. Performance on the field is paramount and the finished product aims to guarantee the players have the product they need to perform.

Asics worked in closed conjunction with the SARU throughout the whole development of the kit, which even included getting members of the South Africa squad to help in the design, prototyping and testing process.

A key feature of the new Test Shirt is the inclusion of Asics MOTIONDRY technology. The breathable material used is designed to dry quickly so that the shirt stays lightweight throughout the game. Another impressive element of the shirts design is that it stretches horizontally. This allows the shirt to be tight fitting but at the same time it won’t cause the wearer to feel constrained by the fabric. The shirt cannot be stretched vertically which reduces the chance of the wearer being grabbed by an opponent.

The SARU have signed a six year contract with Asics and part of the deal is that 70% of the licensed supporters wear will be manufactured in South Africa.

There will be some familiar faces in the World XV side to take on the Springboks with Schalk Brits and Rory Kockott both expected to feature. Other South Africans in the squad include BJ Botha, Alistair Hargreaves and Juandré Kruger.

Following the match in Cape Town, South Africa have back-to-back test matches against Wales followed by a match against Scotland. After this the players head back to their Super XV clubs before the start of the Rugby Championship in mid-August.
