With the Rugby Championship having kicked recently all eyes were on the highly anticipated opening matches between New Zealand and Australia, as the two rivals went head to head in back-to-back matches contesting the Bledisloe Cup.

Whilst the All Blacks were in destructive form recording a 47-29 victory to start their campaign in style, it was Wallabies winger Israel Folau who despite a relatively quiet match still caught our attention by sporting the new Asics Lethal Flash rugby boot. Having previously had Under Armour as his boot of choice, including his recent Test debut against the British & Irish Lions this summer, it came as somewhat of a surprise to see Folau lacing up a new name.

Although he didn’t get his name on the score sheet for the first encounter, Folau did cross the line a week later in a much more tightly contested match in Wellington, which saw the hosts emerge victorious 27-16.

Obviously a big fan of the fresh white look, Folau took to the field in the Asics Lethal Flash DS IT FG Neon White/Maui Blue/Rave Green model which certainly won’t have gone unnoticed. Designed for speed, this is a rugby boot which has been created for those players who thrive off standing out on the field but without compromising on high  performance and comfort.

The soft synthetic across the upper creates a natural touch and comfortable fit which has the feel of real leather. The material also helps reduce the weight of the boot and in addition allows your foot to breath. Unique to Asics, the 10mm HG (heel gradient) wedge is built into the boot and works to alleviate stress on the legs whilst reducing the risk of injury and providing protection.

The evolution of the Lethal series sees this edition deliver a supremely light weight speed boot. Across the outsole a configuration of moulded multi-function studs provide optimum traction for firm natural surfaces. Also available in a SG version, this means you can tackle the opposition all year round and during any conditions.

Asics have clearly impressed Folau as he sported Under Armour on his debut against the Lions this summer and grabbed a brace in them. Only a couple of months down the line and it’s a new name worn for the Rugby Championship so only time will tell if he sticks with these. At least it will keep our boot spotting eyes on full alert throughout the competition.

Keep a look out during the Rugby Championship to see what other new rugby boots are on show as the four Southern Hemisphere heavyweights compete for honours and silverware.
