Courtney Lawes Joins Adidas
There have been a number of players wearing different brands and styles of boot this season, however Courtney Lawes switching to Adidas has to be one of the most significant so far. The Northampton Saints forward formerly wore boots from Nike but has now made the move to Adidas.
Lawes is another addition to Adidas’s already impressive roster of talent which includes the likes of Dan Carter and Jonny Wilkinson. They will be hoping he can enhance the popularity of his selected boot and put in similar performances that lead to his first England call-up back in 2009.
Since his international debut almost three years ago, the second row forward has gone on to make 14 appearances in total for England and featured in the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. He has also had a number of injuries over the past 12 months but will be hoping that these are now behind him and he can make an impact for both club and country.
From the promotional pictures and his first game as an Adidas player, it seems Lawes has opted for the white/black/blue R15 II colourway. Other wearers of this particular style of boot include All Black Richie McCaw and Sam Warburton of the Cardiff Blues and Wales.
The boots Adidas and Lawes have chosen for himself are ideal for a player in his position as he is regularly asked to switch from the second row to the back row when the game suits. The boot is lightweight due to the the Taurus leather upper and one-piece outsole meaning he can get around the pitch much more freely.
Although the boot only features 6 studs, these can be interchanged so longer 21mm can be utilised during the winter months. These, along with the synthetic print on the heel, will help to maximise his performance at the scrum.
