KING CARLOS TO RETURN TO THE SUPER 14 FOR THE LIONS

It has been five years since he played Super Rugby, but Carlos Spencer has joined South African side, the Lions.

The former All Black has joined the capital side for this year’s Super 14 in what is reportedly one of the biggest ever contracts in South African rugby.

Supersport website believes Spencer will earn more money than Argentina’s Juan Martin Hernandez will receive for playing for the Sharks.

Lovell Rugby Team Of The Year 2009

Here in the office, much debate has gone into picking the Lovell Rugby World Team Of The Year 2009. It really has been a great year for Rugby. After much deliberation, here is our team of the year:

15- Rob Kearney- Ireland

The Leinster Full Back (who wears Nike Laser 3 Rugby Boots) with a siege gun left boot. He helped Ireland win the Grand Slam, Leinster win their first Heineken cup and played outstanding for the Lions in South Africa.

14- Corey Jane- New Zealand

The Hurricanes man is more happy at Fullback, although has had a great year on the wing. He played the majority of games for the All Blacks this season and scored some really important tries. Is as good going forward as is going back, which is vital in the modern game.

Jonah Lomu Returns to Rugby

Former All Black winger Jonah Lomu has made his comeback two years after retiring because of a kidney problem.

The 34-year-old Lomu made a low-key return in Marseille’s 63-18 win over Montmelian in front of 2,500 fans in a French third division match.

“This was my first match, I was not expecting a miracle,” said Lomu, who touched the ball for the first time after 20 minutes.

Capped 63 times by the All Blacks, his career was cut short by a transplant.

Lovell Rugby Round Up from around the Globe #2

New Zealand finished their Tri Nations Campaign on a high after Thumping bitter Rivals Australia in Wellington on Saturday night 33-6. The All Blacks were keen to finish with a win before they play the Wallabies again in Japan for the Bledisloe cup and then tour Europe in the Autumn. The All Blacks scored 3 tries from Corey Jane, Maa Nonu and Joe Rokocoko. Dan Cater (wearing his Adidas Predator Powerswerve Rugby boots) added 16 points from the kicking tee. The Wallabies only points came from a Matt Giteau Penalty and Berrick Barnes drop goal. Australia will consider this a poor Tri-Nations after they were backed to do well after good performances against the Touring French and Italians.

Lovell Rugby Match Preview Australia vs New Zealand- Bledisloe Cup

On Saturday the Wallabies and All Blacks will clash in Sydney competing for the famous Bledisloe cup. Both teams have recently lost in their Tri Nations games against South Africa, with the All Blacks losing twice in Pretoria and Durban and the Wallabies losing in Cape Town. Both teams will be looking for a win to resurect their Tri Nations campaigns.

For the Wallabies George Smith will captain a line-up containing three changes, including the return of back rower Rocky Elsom, for Saturday’s Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations clash against New Zealand. It will be Elsom’s first game back since his Sabbactical for Leinster, in which he helped them win their first Heineken Cup beating the Leicester Tigers at Murrayfield.

With Elsom on the blindside flank, Richard Brown (who wears Nike Air Legend 2 Rugby boots) switched from the side to the back of the scrum and number eight Wycliff Palu was dropped to the bench. Openside Flanker Smith was elevated to the captaincy after Stirling Mortlock was sidelined due to an injury he sustained in the 29-17 loss to the Springboks last time out.

Steyn The Record Breaker Sinks All Blacks in Shark Tank

South Africa recorded their second win in a row against the All Blacks in Durban on Saturday evening, in wet conditions.

Morne Steyn (Wearing his Nike Vapor 4 Rugby boots) scored every single one of his team’s points with a terrific display of place-kicking. He broke the record for most points against the All Blacks, most points in a tri nations game and earned the World record for most points scored by a player! Steyn has scored all their team’s points and the most penalties by a South African in a game. In doing so, he beat the 7 achieved by kicking coach and world cup winner Percy Montgomery.

The All Blacks had challenged themselves to respond from last week’s defeat in Bloemfontein, but performance was error ridden from start to finish.

Dan Carter Re-Signs With Crusaders Untill 2011

All Blacks fly-half Dan Carter has ended speculation about his playing future by re-signing a two-year deal with Canterbury and the Crusaders. Carter recently returned to New Zealand after an ill-fated sabbatical with French champions Perpignan - an Achilles injury ending his stay after only five games.

Carter’s signature was actively sought by Auckland and the Blues - where Carter (Who Wears The Adidas Powerweb T-Shirt) has a home - but their huge offer was not enough to counter Carter’s loyalty to Canterbury. (more…)

France Shock New Zealand At House Of Pain

France scored their second consecutive win against New Zealand with a well deserved 27-22 victory on their first ever visit to Carisbrook on Saturday.

The visitors scored first and never trailed, eventually outscoring an under-strength All Blacks three tries to two.

A massive defensive display from France was contrasted by a below-par performance from the home team, who were dominated for most of the match. (more…)
