Lovell Rugby’s 2010 Six Nations Team Of The Tournament

As ever the Six Nations again proved why it is so unpredictable. French coach Mark Lievromant’s young chargers did not have alot expected of them and how did they prove people wrong! (us included). In a way they also educated maybe a even a certain England coach that blooding the young players, is the way forward. Leaving them in a very healthy state with a World cup not far away.
Their were also lots of shock results this year with Italy beating a much improved Scotland at home and then Scotland defeating Ireland at the last game at Croke Park.
Overall It has been great championship. Here is our team of the Tournament- As ever feel free to leave yours and your thoughts
Six Nations: Team of the Tournament
15 ClĂ©ment Poitrenaud (France) - A lot more hot than cold this year. His best outing came against Italy but throughout the championship he showed a lot more authority and solidity than in the past and was a big factor in France winning the Grand Slam. The Toulouse Full back (who wears Nike Laser 3 Rugby Boots) held off Ireland’s Geordan Murphy.
14 Tommy Bowe (Ireland) - Continuing on from the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa, the Irish winger was always a running option for either Ronan O’Gara or Jonathan Sexton this championship and finished joint top of the try-scoring table in 2010. The Ospreys winger (who wears Puma V-10 Rugby boots) is now really starting to establish himself a real world class finisher. Held off Scotland’s Sean Lamount who had a great championship after a few years out of the International scene.
13 James Hook (Wales) - Hook(Who wears Adidas Predator X Rugby Boots) had a fantastic tournament at a position that is still relatively new to him. His only slight blot was the intercept pass he threw against France. Tackled and kicked well and most importantly scored trys and made breaks for fun. Has always had a great step but has now added a powerfull hand off in aswell. Kept out Ireland’s Brian O’Driscoll which is not easy.

France Win Sland Slam Defeating Improved England

France sealed their ninth Grand Slam with a tense 12-10 victory over the men in white at Stade de France on Saturday night.
England played the best rugby of their campaign - if not the past year - but they got on the wrong side of referee Bryce Lawrence in the earlier stages of the game, and there they remained.
They got just one penalty shot at goal in the entire match.
It’s fitting that this topsy-turvy Six Nations ended with a cultural about-turn: England got the only try via Ben Foden but France used the soggy conditions to squeeze England out of the game via the set-piece and their half-backs. It’s was the semi-final of RWC 2003 in reverse. (more…)

Wilkinson Extends French Stay At Toulon
England international fly-half Jonny Wilkinson has extended his contract with French side Toulon by one year, the Top 14 club announced on Thursday without providing further details.
Wilkinson, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, arrived at the club last summer from Newcastle, where he had played since making his professional debut in 1997.
The 30-year-old, a World Cup winner in 2003 and finalist four years later, is the leading scorer in the Top 14 with 177 points.

Who Would Be In Your England Team For The Opening Game Against Wales?

With 3 weeks to go before the opening round of the Six Nations championship talk in the office is of who is on form and possible selections for England’s Opening Match against Wales.
Lovell Rugby thinks the game will be vital especially for England, who could do with a win to give them confidence for the rest of the championship. The championship which we think is more open than most think. Most people would suggest Ireland are Favourites at this stage after a solid Autumn international period. Although this year all teams are capable of turning each other over.
After Englands indifferent but slightly improving form in November and the return of Key players from Injury Lovell Rugby is fairly optimistic England can rediscover winning ways.
We have been watching the Guinness Preimership closely and Heineken cup closely monitoring players from to see who are the favouries to start at Twickenham.

Johnson Calls Up Ashton and Hape
Northampton and Former Wigan Warriors Rugby League winger Chris Ashton (who wears Nike Vapor Rugby Boots) has been rewarded for his fine form this season with a place in England’s revised elite squad for the Six Nations.
Ashton currently tops the Guinness Premiership try-scoring charts this season having crossed nine times, with the 22-year-old proving to be a big hit at Franklin’s Gardens since crossing codes from Wigan Warriors.
And Ashton has been Martin Johnson’s new-look squad as an injury call-up in place of the sidelined PhilVickery.

Lovell Rugby Team Of The Year 2009

Here in the office, much debate has gone into picking the Lovell Rugby World Team Of The Year 2009. It really has been a great year for Rugby. After much deliberation, here is our team of the year:
15- Rob Kearney- Ireland
The Leinster Full Back (who wears Nike Laser 3 Rugby Boots) with a siege gun left boot. He helped Ireland win the Grand Slam, Leinster win their first Heineken cup and played outstanding for the Lions in South Africa.
14- Corey Jane- New Zealand
The Hurricanes man is more happy at Fullback, although has had a great year on the wing. He played the majority of games for the All Blacks this season and scored some really important tries. Is as good going forward as is going back, which is vital in the modern game.
