British & Irish Lions Team Announced for Third Test
Wales lock Alun Wyn Jones will captain the British & Irish Lions against Australia this Saturday after Brian O’Driscoll was sensationally left out of the squad.
One of ten Welshmen in the side, Jones comes as a surprise selection to lead the side as it was highly expected that O’Driscoll would take on the captaincy role in the absence of injured Sam Warburton.
In a strange twist of fate, Jones will lead the Lions against his opposite counterpart James Horwill, who has now been cleared of stamping on the Welshman’s head in the first Test.
In fifteen years of rugby, this is the first time that the Irishman has been dropped by a coach but it is believed his performances in the first two tests prompted head coach Warren Gatland to seek an alternative.
With Gatland making six changes to the side which lost to the Wallabies last weekend, the new faces in the starting line-up are Jamie Roberts (centre), Alex Corbisiero (prop), Richard Hibbard (hooker), Sean O’Brien (flanker), Mike Phillips (scrum-half) and Toby Faletau (number eight).
The decisive third and final Test between the British & Irish Lions and Australia kicks off this Saturday at 11:00 BST.
